Caato: Time Tracker & Work Log App Reviews

Good App for Freelancers

I have been using Caato Time Tracker for a few weeks now and it has saved me a lot of time from just tracking my hours on my own. It is simplistic, but does the job for me as a freelancer. At the end of the month, I just click a button and download the info to a spreadsheet to submit along with my invoice. The nice part is that it works and it is free.

Does what I need it to

Achieved what I needed it to - I track time spent on client projects. It allows me to subdivide a project time spend into various areas of that project. The user interface could be polished up, which is why the 4 star rating. Functionally, it’s got what I need.

Great App

Easy to use simple, just what I was looking for. I really like the export ability. Once my projects are done I can easily send my time sheets to customers!!

Good basics with exceptions

Does ok for basic tracking, but needs to have the ability to do sub tasks or notes to tasks to be really useful If they want as much money as they do for the professional version, then this functionality needs to be there.

Goodbye spreadsheets

Simply amazing. It’s so easy to use (took me about 1 minute to figure it out). All you have to do is create one or more projects, create tasks for each project, then whenever you’re working on a task, press the record button beside it. When you stop, press pause. That’s it! The app automatically records the date and times worked (which you can make corrections to, if need be) and tallies time spent on each task, and each project. You can see tallies by day, week, or any custom range you choose. No more typing dates and times into spreadsheets for every 15-minute chunk of work! Works great for me as a consultant; I can set up a “project” for each client, and a “task” for each job that I’m working on.

Invaluable

Invaluable for billing hours, couldn’t survive without it. Ridiculously easy to use. I have the paid version.

Easy to use.

I’ve used Caato Time Tracker for a couple of years and chose it because its easy to use ad doesn’t get in the way of my accomplishing my tasks.

Perfection in simplicity

I was looking for years for simple time tracking app and finally found one. For more then one year this app did not crash, ui just does what it sould and does not distract me. Simple, perfect app with simple functionality I need. Kudos to all the team :)

Very Misleading!!!

The app has a free and a pay version. They strongly imply that the functionality of the free version includes tracking multiple projects. Screenshots need to show the truth. You can only track one project for free, you have to upgrade to the pay version to get any of the cool functionality it talks about.

Suits My Needs Well

This app works very well for me in my work from home as an independent contractor for just one company. I can easily track the time I spend working on separate tasks. I’d give it five stars if I could find a way to stop it from asking me if I want to upgrade to the pro version, which I don’t need.

CAATO works as advertised

I have been using CAATO time tracker in my consulting practice for about a year. The ease of use has made it a very valuable tool. I would like to see it on a cloud so I could open time tracking on my phone and iPad.

Love it!

I really wanted a super simple time tracker and found it with this application. It’s accurate, easy-to-use and easy to edit. I work on multiple projects throughout the day and love that I can separate my time by project and project task. Worth the money!

Needs cloud support badly

I’m a professional software architect that often performs consultation work. This is a great tool to track multiple clients and provide specific time exports for invoicing. There are a couple of annoyances, but I’m too time-restricted to write my own app for time tracking. Like others have stated, we are direly in need of cloud support. This isn’t very difficult: just add the files to a cloud container and offer a migration path in the delegate or manager. Done. I’m not quite sure why the app _still_ doesn’t yet support cloud-backing; as I said, it’s not very hard to do.

Very helpful app - Search function?

I use the free version of this app to track the time I spend doing phone tech support with our customers. The app is very easy to use and allows me to export the time I spend for each call into an Excel spreadsheet to sum up each month for billing. I have about 375 customers in the Catto application. A feature request would be to have a *search function* available. When I need to add time to an existing customer, I have to scroll through some 375 entries to locate the one I need. Scrolling the list is very tedious, and because of the UI it generally takes me several tries to locate a specific record. Search function please. I would definitly purchase your already great product with that enhancement.

This App Runs the Billing End of My Business

For anyone looking to track their hours, either professinally or personally, I recommend this application. The user interface is intuitive right from the start. There are no bugs, no popups or interuptions. There is so much you can do with the time once it has been logged. A must have for people looknig to track their hours.

Best, most straight-forward time tracking tool

I’ve churned through many, many time-tracking apps trying to find one that was had a decent amount of features but was also easy to use. Caato Time Tracker was both. The software does exactly what it promises, and does it well. I’ve only ever had one (very minor) problem and the developer was super responsive and fixed the issue very quickly.

Easy tracking frees up brain capacity for real work

This is a great tool. I’m a scientist working under the aegis of a WBS, which could be construed as cruel and unusual punishment. Caato makes it super easy to create a task list with both the WBS numbers I use, and simple descriptions of what I actually do in each category. After about a month of loving it, I bought the not-very-expensive Pro version so I can now export a spreadsheet of my activities at the end of the week and use that to populate my time card. What used to be an onerous Monday morning chore—what was I working on last Monday afternoon? How long did that Thursday meeting run over?—is now a gratifying exercise in precision. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs to (or wants to) log their activity in real time.

COULD be a great app, but …

I like this, overall, but here are a few concerns: 1. The ‘nag” to upgrade is totally annoying, popping up about every fifth time (sometimes less) that you interact with the app. If you want to nag me once a month or once a week, okay, I get that everyone needs to earn a living; BUT, this app NAGS you ALL THE TIME! Because of this irritating behavior, I will NEVER purchase this app. I have two others that I use (this one is a backup to Harvest, which never nags, nor does the simple TimeTracker), so if they take away the free functionality I will just trash it. I may do so before that because of the nags. 2. The window is only miinimally resizable, and since I take screenshots to keep records, that makes it hard to get a screenshot I can read. This is just a backup app for that reason, as well. 3. To edit an entry, you have to go through several hoops. Just give me a widget that allows me to directly input what my time actually is, don’t make me figure out how many minutes or hours I need to add or subtract. If I’ve worked 5 hours but had forgotten to punch out and want to correct it, I have to figure how many minutes to subtract, and whether to subtract from the start time or the end time, then … oh, it’s just a MESS! Like the title says, this COULD be a great app, but as it is, it’s just “Meh” for mediocre.

love it!!

Can’t believe how easy this application is to use. I do alot of projects at one time and Caato Time Tracker makes it sooooo simple to keep track of different jobs. The interface is simplistic and very user friendly. It took me less then 10 minutes to figure out all the preferences. would highly recommend this app to any graphic artist who charges by the hour instead of the job.

Easy, Simple, Functional

I’m an oil painter artist, and I have tried many ways to track my hours on a painting, so that I can assign appropriate pricing to my work. This is so easy to use, so simple and functional, I finally have a way to follow my work through an entire month and allocate hours to different aspects of the painting. What a relief. I would just wish for one more thing - if there was a place for a few notes within each sub-set. I would love to write down color combinations I used for specific things in each painting, because that would be so helpful down the road when I want to use that color effect again. I could just pull up the subject heading (pomegranate etc) and read the notes on what colors I used. Now that would be a dream come true!
